When ordinary eyeglasses or contact lenses do not provide clear enough vision to perform tasks such as reading, writing, driving or television viewing, special eyeglasses or low vision aids are necessary to help perform these tasks. When your current eye doctor cannot surgically or medically improve your vision, a low vision examination by a low vision eye doctor is needed. A low vision eye doctor can prescribe special eyeglasses as well as other low vision aids to help you perform desired tasks. Patients also receive special training in the use of their low vision aids.
